Yesterday we spent the day on the Isle of Wight. We got the Red Funnel car ferry from Southampton to East Cowes. The kids absolutely loved it on there - Archie especially! He was fascinated by the docks and all the big boats going by.
On the Island we we drove to Alum Bay. Unfortunately the chairlift down to the beach wasn't working (I think we were still a bit out of season) but the kids had fun filling their chosen bottle with layers of coloured sands taken from the cliffs there.
We spent the rest of the day on Appley Beach in Ryde. I grew up on the Island and this has always been my favourite beach. My Nan worked in the kiosk there when my mum was small and she spent much of her childhood on the beach. I too spent many days there with all the family when I was little so it has great memories for me. It was lovely to take my own kids and see them enjoy it so much. They loved building sandcastles, paddling in the rock pools and finding pretty shells.
On the way home we enjoyed the most beautiful views - the moon shining one side and the sun going down the other! A lovely end to a wonderful day, something we definitely hope to do again soon!
What a gorgeous place ... it must have been wonderful to grow up there ... Bee xx

ReplyDeleteoh it looks beautiful, I would love to visit! I love how kids always seem to be unfazed by the freezing sea, I rarely go near it in the height of summer! x

ReplyDeleteOh how lovely. The light is great, it looks like June not March. I grew up on the South Coast and day trips over to the Isle of Wight on the car ferry were a regular thing. I remember filling up my little bottle with coloured sand at Alum Bay too...lovely to know you can still do that there! Is Black Gang Chine still open I wonder? Definitely a day out to try with my two. x
